It so happened that I had these few tracks which go so well together.

It is a Japanese proverb that describes the beauties of nature – which is a concept that was inspired by the sounds of the five tracks, and also to pay homage to Samurai Champloo.Ī little fun fact: I initially had another compilation which I wanted to release first and Tranquility is meant to come out later but I decided to put it out first because the other compilation is unfinished. The four characters in the cover art, 花鳥風月 (kachou fuugetsu), means “flower, bird, wind, moon”. That is why also when I was designing this cover art, I wanted to make something that matches it. I wouldn’t say the tracks are entirely the result of inspiration from the show, but when I was picking the tracks that I produced for compilation, I kind of decided to go in this direction – getting sounds that could go well together with the show as if they were straight out of the Samurai Champloo OST. Now if you didn’t know, I – along with a big bunch of fellow beatmakers – am a really big fan of Samurai Champloo. Mainly, the tracks should inspire a visualization of a journey through nature. Compared to my previous EP, Bring Home the Jazz, I focused on the simplicity of sounds this time – you can hear how straightforward and simple each track is. Of course, having my musical roots in jazz and hip-hop, the tracks are naturally focused on boom bap styles. The EP has 5 instrumental tracks sampling ambient and jazz sounds. My latest instrumental EP, Tranquility, is finally out on all streaming platforms! If you haven’t, check it out using the below links: Here’s hoping for more from the both of us! Do check out both versions and let me know which one you like more! To me it’s refreshing to listen to the quieter, more soothing version of the song. I tried to make it more simplistic rather than making it sound overly rich, so the spotlight remains on the piano. At that moment I decided that there should be an acoustic version of the track where his piano shines more, and that’s how the acoustic version came to be. When I took the piano loops from Ikage for mixing, I found that his piano was actually so nice that it deserved a release on its own. So I sent him the beat and asked him to help me with it, which he kindly did – and not to my surprise, the whole beat came alive with his piano! And the rest is history… I then thought of getting Ikage to play some piano loops for me over the beat, since I learned that he also plays the piano (shout-out to this talented dude). It was quite good by itself as a beat but I craved some dreamy piano sounds like in some of Nujabes’ and Uyama Hiroto’s works. Then some weeks ago I flipped a soulful sample and made this beat that sounded dreamy and peaceful. We followed each other and have appreciated each other’s music, being equally big fans of Nujabes, DJ Deckstream, Uyama Hiroto and the likes. After checking out his work, I was impressed by how close his sounds resemble Nujabes’ sounds, more so than any other indie artists I had heard. If people’s lives can be lightened up by music, I think that’s at least one of the things that I can do.īefore this collaboration, Ikage discovered me on YouTube and connected with me on SoundCloud. I feel that this is a good time to inspire hope and peace – a lot of us have lost their loved ones to the pandemic and many have struggled hard to make it through in this hardship. Both tracks give the vibes of peace, hope and light, and that is why I named the release Radiance.

The main track is an instrumental hip-hop beat featuring a soulful sample and Ikage’s piano, while the second track is the acoustic version. This is a two-track release of my project with an amazing artist who I came to know early this year, Ikage. Hey folks, what is up? Hopefully you’re all still staying strong in this pandemic.Īnyway, I’m happy to present my new single, Radiance! Check it out on the below major platforms:
